Cathay Pacific Free Personal Baggage

The Cathay Pacific Airlines allows you to take one free personal item besides the standard Cathay Pacific carry-on bag. This may include:

  • Small handbags
  • Small backpacks

Cathay Pacific Carry-On Prohibited Items

To make the flight safe for you and your fellow passengers, Cathay Pacific has restricted the carriage of some items and prohibited some others.

Cathay Pacific restricted items

The following items are allowed to bring on Cathay Pacific flights, but with some restrictions.

Liquids and Aerosols
  • Example:
    • Gels, like hair gel or shower gel
    • Lotions and liquids, like sun cream or roll-on deodorant
    • Pastes, like toothpaste or Vaseline (when travelling with infants)
    • Pressurized foams and sprays, like shaving foam or deodorant
    • Foodstuffs, like water or yoghurt
    • Liquid cosmetics, like foundation or lip-gloss
  • Maximum allowed per container: 100 ml (container size)
  • Maximum total allowed: 1 liter per passenger
  • All such items must be sealed in one 8” × 8” transparent zip lock bag and presented for security inspection in a separate tray.
  • For travel to or from the USA, Australia and New Zealand, maximum total volume of all powders is 350 mlper passenger only.
  • Alcoholic beverages: up to 70% (140 proof) only, up to 5 liters per passenger, in retail packaging and in checked bags only.
  • Alcohol-based disinfectants or sanitizers: up to 2 liters per passenger, each item less than 0.5 liter, in retail packaging.
  • Exceptions:
    • Medicines that are essential for travel, like diabetic kits (with prescription)
    • Baby food, in paste or liquid form (only if you are travelling with an infant)
    • Expressed breast milk of breast feeding mothers (travelling with or without their baby)
    • Non-liquid cosmetics, like lipsticks, powder foundation and solid deodorant

Duty free items – you can bring any amount of liquid in your duty free item pack, as long as it is kept in the original tamper-proof bag and have the receipt.

Batteries and battery-operated devices
  • Spare batteries should be carried in their original packaging or taped over the terminals securely.
  • All batteries must be removed from the electronic devices before boarding the plane.
  • Spare batteries: 20 pcs if under 100 watt-hours, 2 pcs if 100 to 160 watt-hours. More than 160 watt-hours battery cells are notallowed on cabin baggage.
  • Exception: electronic mobility aids. Must have proper documentation.
Controlled Items
  • Lighters and matches: 1 lighter or1 safety match allowed in pocket, except to/from China, India, and Bangladesh.
  • Inflatable objects: must be deflated before boarding.
  • Food items: most food items are allowed on Cathay Pacific Airlinesflights, except jackfruit and durian. However, local laws may apply.
  • E-cigarettes: cannot use in flight, but can carry in bags. Prohibited to transport in Taiwan and India.
  • Firearms, ammunition and projectile devices: with license, packed in locked casing, in checked bags only.

  • Stunning devices
  • Explosive substances
  • Flammable or incendiary substances including fuels
